Annie‘s passion for interiors and beautiful living began decades ago. Since the late 1980s she has worked in the interior design industry, beginning with a highly successful four year experience at Ethan Allen in Natick, Massachusetts. After welcoming her daughter and helping establish a strong foundation for family life, Annie returned to her creative career at a design studio in Boulder, Colorado, Eventually opening the very first Simply D’Vine boutique in 2010. At that time she started creating one of a time artisan jewelry pieces that developed into a whole collection named Annie Bates Design Jewelry her pieces were featured in galleries and boutiques
A move to Arizona, Arizona inspired the second incarnation of Simply D’Vine … A beloved 2200 square-foot boutique in Carefree, Arizona, where Annie cultivated a loyal clientele and became known for creating a uniquely, beautiful and thoughtfully, curated shopping experience centered on warmth, inspiration, and personal connection.
After being widowed in 2022, Annie found comfort and renewal through creativity and community. The boutique became more than a business… It became a place of healing, meaningful relationships, and joy.

In 2025, a wonderful new chapter began when Annie and Kirk found each other. Having both grown up in Minnesota and with much of their family still rooted here, they felt called back home… This time to Lake City.
For Annie, returning feels deeply personal. As a young girl, she walked these very streets hand-in-hand with her grandmother, after taking the train from Saint Paul to visit. It was here she learned the simple graces of hospitality, beauty, and becoming a proper young lady… Memories she treasures to this day.
Now, Annie and Kirk are honored to relive those joyful moments as they build Simply D’Vine in the heart of Lake City. Their hope is to create a destination boutique that delights, both locals and visitors alike… A welcoming place, known for beauty, inspiration, and heartfelt hospitality.
Kirk, a master carpenter with a gift for craftsmanship, is the perfect complement to Annie’s creative vision and offers valuable expertise for customers seeking help with home projects and custom ideas.
Together, they hope their combined talents, experience, and love for beautiful living will be a meaningful contribution to Lake City’s vibrant and growing community.
